So, why do you Tweet? I love the interaction between the Richmond Twitter communities. I am able to become
acquainted with other Richmonders with similar interests and it also links me to articles
and stories I find consistently interesting.
And on an average day, how often do you figure that you tweet?
I am a pretty busy person throughout the day, but when I do find a gap of time to look at
twitter feeds. I would say I personally tweet comments 4 - 5 times a day but I more so
respond to others' comments 8 - 9 times a day.
Time to brag -- do you have a favorite tweet of your own that you've posted? May 3rd at 7:55: (RAH)2 (AH)3 + [ROMA (1+MA)] + (GA)2 + (OOH)(LA)2
I love pop culture and have been a fan of Lady Gaga. As soon as I had seen this, I had to
post it up. Whoever came up with this clever algorithm to reference Lady Gaga's
"Romance" gets an "A" in my book. I have to admit, on the day I had posted it; I went
back and re-read this a number of times throughout the day.
Which of your tweets have been the most popular, caused the most stink, or
generated the most buzz?
March 17th at 3:44pm: What astounds me: Someone who has been in their career field for
>10 yrs, and Me (< 2 yrs) has to explain to them how to do their job. #Fail
I had so many comments on this one tweet. It seems like a lot of Baby Boomers and
those from the (1925-1945) Silent Generation feel intimidated by the speed of technology
innovation and have given up on learning or attempting to learn anything new when it
comes to technological innovation or new methodologies to increase job productivity.
Those that I have had to work with from these eras are satisfied with doing their job as
they did 15yrs ago. It seems like this frustration happens often from the responses I had
received.
Got a good Twitter story? Recently, an office was having great frustrations with finding a good candidate for a
position posted up to be filled. 56 applicants for 2 open positions and only one good
candidate. As an alternative to reposting the position and going through the same grueling
interview process, I had suggested to post the position on Twitter. Within a matter of
minutes, an extremely capable person was found, interviewed the next day and hired by
the end of the week. The use of Twitter benefited us all. The company: by hiring a great
candidate, Myself: Innovative thinking prevented delays in developing company's team,
and the candidate: by providing an opportunity for this person which they might not have
pursued otherwise.
Any favorite (good or bad) replies?
I am a total bargain hunter. I love it when I am fishing Twitterverse for ideas on
restaurants, events, etc. and people respond with exactly what I was looking for, but with
the added bonus of a link offering specials, coupons, or discounts. Tweets with bargains
are my favorite type of replies.
If you weren't using your current Twitter handle, what would you call yourself?
I have used an AIM name for the longest time, and still currently am very attached to that
name. I do not understand or can even explain the attachment I have towards it. The
name I had planned was "Ranma613," taken from one of my favorite anime characters. I
had thought through the Twitter handle for some time and decided against it. I had
noticed that those whom have had creative Twitter handles had to personify it. As an
example, I will make up a handle; "@Mathguru" Because of the name, instantly you are
your name and your tweets must personify the name. I wouldn't know that name to be
Matt or Steve, but as the person who is good at math. Because of that, I just decided to
use @MelRV, since that is who I am.
Who are some of your favorite Tweeps that you're currently following? For myself, I mainly am interested in the tweets from those I have personally met and
have gotten to know and those that I find absolutely hilarious: @ptmartinez,
@Knownhuman, @scguthrie, @anaRVA, @bcarr, @ksiddall, @berylliumblonde,
@DasJorge, @FilthyRichmond, and @TrevorDickerson.
The list can continue, but to save space, I will only list my top 10.
When you're not using Twitter what other platforms tickle your fancy?
I love using Tweetdeck for both my PC and iPhone. With Tweetdeck, I'm able to see all
my social media feeds all in one area.
What's coming up next for you in 2010, in terms of how you plan to use Twitter or
other platforms?
I have suggested utilizing social media for company updates to which our vendors can
benefit from. The battle still goes on, but with perseverance, I might be able to represent
my company on Twitterverse. Having a double persona will be easily managed with
Tweetdeck.
