Afrikana, an independent film festival that showcases cinematic works from emerging and established filmmakers throughout the African diaspora, is teaming up with Feast RVA for “Movies & Mimosas” at Candela Gallery on Sunday, February 16. The event will celebrate Black love, Black culture, and Black history. “Movies & Mimosas” will include a screening of Life Essentials with Ruby Dee, a documentary that follows the grandson of actors Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis on his personal quest to master lasting love and conscious art. The film includes guest appearances by Phylicia Rashad, Spike Lee, Harry Belafonte, and Angela Basset. After the screening, representatives from Afrikana and Feast RVA will host a discussion about the rich legacy of Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis’ activism, artistic expression, and enduring love. The screening and discussion will also include a brunch buffet and mimosa bar.
