A Beautifully Broken Virginia

John Plashal and Elisabeth Rigsby will host a fascinating storytelling program on Saturday at Caravati’s Architectural Salvage about many of Virginia’s forlorn and beautifully decaying places that have been frozen in time from decades ago. Plashal is a photographer, author and speaker based in Richmond. His photographic coffee table book, “A Beautifully Broken Virginia,” explores long abandoned rural houses, schools, churches and sanatoriums. He is also a member of the Statewide Faculty Speakers Bureau for the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, speaking to VMFA affiliates about his captivating imagery and amazing stories.
The event will feature the unique backstories behind the many beautifully broken locations featured in Plashal’s inaugural coffee table book. Books will be available for sale during the Meet the Author and signing session following his presentation. Admission is $5 at the door. The first session is sold out but tickets are still available here for the 6pm session.
