History of Manchester Walking Tour

The Valentine has been collecting, preserving and interpreting Richmond’s 400-year history for over a century. Located in the heart of historic downtown, the Valentine is a place for residents and tourists to discover the diverse stories that tell the broader history of the region. One way the Valentine carries out its mission in the Richmond community is through walking tours designed to help participants better understand the evolution of each of Richmond’s diverse neighborhoods. Tours by the Valentine push far beyond the highlights and are known for uncovering each neighborhood’s best-kept secrets.

On October 6, from 10 am to noon, the Valentine will explore Manchester. Located just across the banks of the James River, Manchester was incorporated into Richmond in 1910. The tour, led by a Master Valentine Guide, will take Richmonders through this once independent city’s pre-Civil War past and take an in-depth look at how the neighborhood’s industrial space is being redesigned for work, living and art in the 21st century. Spots for this tour are going quickly, so make sure to purchase your tickets here.
