Kroger Provides Food and Fuel for FeedMore’s Meals on Wheels

Over the Thanksgiving holiday, Kroger Mid-Atlantic teamed with FeedMore, Central Virginia’s core hunger-relief organization, to cover the cost of meals for approximately 900 seniors and homebound neighbors in the Richmond area. Kroger also made the week extra special for FeedMore’s Meals on Wheels volunteer drivers by handing out fuel gift cards.

“We’re very thankful to have a partner like Kroger who is always looking for creative and meaningful ways to join us in the fight against hunger in Central Virginia,” says Tim McDermott, Chief Development Officer at FeedMore. “Our volunteers give so much to us each and every day and it’s a great feeling to be able to provide them with a little something extra this holiday season to recognize their continued commitment and dedication to our mission and most importantly, our recipients.”

Kroger donated the full cost of the special holiday meal, saving FeedMore nearly $3,500. Volunteer drivers delivered the meals to recipients on 94 routes across 14 localities throughout greater Richmond. The average Meals on Wheels driver followed a 13-mile route taking roughly 55 minutes to complete.

“As part of our commitment to Zero Hunger, Zero Waste, we’re creating innovative initiatives, like Thanksgiving Fueled By Kroger, to help those most vulnerable in our communities,” says Allison McGee, corporate affairs manager at Kroger Mid-Atlantic.

Since 2014, Kroger Mid-Atlantic has donated more than 2 million meals to FeedMore through a variety of initiatives, including coin box donations, icon sales, corporate donations, partnerships, perishable donations and other community events.
