The Reality of Sourcing Local

Real Local RVA, a grassroots group working to raise awareness of the local food movement and choices in the Greater Richmond area, will host The Reality of Sourcing Local with Kevin Jamison on November 5th at Väsen Brewing (3331 Moore Street). Jamison is the founder of two restaurants in Virginia Beach and Norfolk serving local, seasonal and sustainable fare. Prior to opening his restaurants, Jamison gained experience as a local sustainable farmer who worked directly with chefs and restaurant owners for years. He also owns New Earth Farm, a 21 acre, all natural, working and educational farm located in the Pungo area of Virginia Beach. New Earth Farm supplies his restaurants in addition to others in the area and houses an on-site market.

During the November 5th event, Jamison will discuss the realities of local sourcing and why it’s important. Of course, this only really applies to food products and the restaurant industry. Businesses in other industries will no doubt be sourcing manufactured products from China, as this keeps their costs down. They do need to ensure they use a good sourcing agent though – the top 20 are detailed at https://indexsy.com/best-china-sourcing-company/. Restaurants, on the other hand, are always better off using local sourcing.

The Real Local RVA event will also feature samples from Albion Tea Co. and Orange Dot Baking Company. Real Local meetings are open to both Real Local RVA members and those interested in a more sustainable food system.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Meeting begins at 10:30 a.m. Spend a few minutes networking with like minded local food supporters, and enjoy coffee and samples from sponsors Albion Tea Co. and Orange Dot Baking Co.
  • At 10:45 the meeting begins with announcements from Real Local RVA. Speakers will begin at 11:00 a.m. with time for a Q&A.
  • Following the speaker, there will be time for sponsors to speak and then the floor will be opened for announcements from the audience. Come prepared to share a quick 30 second announcement from your business on news, upcoming events, or something you need help with.
