The duo of Väsen Brewing Company and Kobop have teamed up to open their new brewery partnership today along the bustling Forest Hill Avenue corridor. The long-anticipated second location marks a major milestone for the local brewery, which first opened its flagship Scott’s Addition location in 2017 and has since built a reputation for pairing craft beer with a strong sense of place and community.
The expanded presence south of the river further strengthens this purpose-driven brewery’s connection to Richmond’s outdoor community, the James River Park System, and the many causes Väsen has long supported. Since co-founders Joey Darragh and Tony Giordano opened the doors, Väsen has cultivated an identity rooted in environmental stewardship and the spirit of adventure. The new Forest Hill outpost at 5047 Forest Hill Avenue is the latest expression of that legacy — designed as a modern, comfortable landing spot for trail runners, mountain bikers, paddlers, and neighborhood families alike.
Inside the taproom, guests will find Jess Bevenour coordinating a menu of Väsen’s award-winning beers alongside wines and refreshing draft cocktails, perfect for an après-ride stop.
In a company statement, Väsen Brewing Company co-owner Tony Giordano shared: “This was a big passion project. Richmond has been so great to us throughout the years, and we are really excited to have an opportunity to engrain ourselves further into the community. With this new location, we are able to accommodate more people with options such as wine, mixed drinks, food, and other cocktails. It also gives us easy access to the river and parks south of the James, which will help grow our community events. We can’t wait to become a part of Richmond’s Southside.”
A major standout of the newly opened space is Väsen’s partnership with Jason Song, the creator of the beloved Kobop food truck, which has earned a devoted local following of its own. The new brick-and-mortar Kobop, conveniently located inside the brewery, features Korean street-fusion favorites including Korean tacos, bao buns, and Korean fried chicken, with gluten-free and vegan options available.
The space also offers event rentals, complete with a private bar, AV equipment, and flexible seating — ideal for film screenings, celebrations, small wedding receptions, and corporate gatherings.
Sustainability remains central to Väsen’s mission, and the new location incorporates energy-efficient systems and environmentally conscious materials wherever possible. The brewery also plans to host community-focused programs including trail cleanups, run clubs, and educational events highlighting Richmond’s natural spaces and the people who steward them. Additional outdoor patio seating is planned for spring 2026.
The new digs feature architectural design by Fultz & Singh Architects, contracted by Peter Guyre of Peterwerks and Sender Vans, and are adorned with creative elements including a mural by Eli McMullen, custom lighting fixtures by Bliss Iron Studio, and an integrated bartop by CapWorks.
