WRIC’s 8News to Host Mayoral Debate 2020

WRIC’s 8News will host a live telecast and digital stream of the first Richmond mayoral debate of the season. “Mayoral Debate 2020” will take place on Thursday, September 24 at 5 pm ET at Virginia Union University’s Alix B. James Chapel featuring incumbent Mayor Levar Stoney, and Alexsis Rogers, Kim Gray, Justin Grifffin, and Tracy McClean.

The first mayoral debate of the season, presented in partnership with the Virginia Union University, will be broadcast live on-air by WRIC, Richmond’s ABC affiliate from 5 to 6PM. The entire two hour program will be streamed at wric.com, 8News’ Facebook page, and Virginia Union University’s Facebook page. 

The debate will be moderated by 8News anchor Juan Conde and former Virginia Governor, L. Douglas Wilder who will be asking questions related to police reform, economic development in Richmond, the process of voting amidst a pandemic, and how COVID-19 and racial justice issues. Moderators are also seeking public input for important questions which can be sent via the form on the wric.com homepage. Dr. Hakim Lucas, President of Virginia Union University, will be presenting opening remarks.
